Convocation fun at University of Ottawa

My, how university convocations have changed since my graduation from University of Victoria, back in ’85.  I do recall mine being a bit too formal, and of course, smartphones weren’t around back then to spice things up a little.  So I was pleasantly entertained during a recent convocation at the University of Ottawa for the Faculty of Arts (second session on Sunday, June 14, 2015).  The hijinks started after PhD’s and MA’s were conferred (my friend was an MA graduate), as the very large number of undergraduates lined up and then called onto the stage.  Both President Alan Rock and Alberto Manguel, the Honorary Doctorate recipient, were often approached for big hugs and selfies.  Below are a few photos that I manged to capture (click to view full size image).

Yes, very different from my day when we were instructed to walk rapidly, quick handshake, pause for a picture, then off the podium in a few seconds. I remember I was very nervous. This looks like much more fun!
